In the beginning, Richard Platings trained as a Chartered Surveyor and pursued a career in construction which brought him into contact with the Amadeus and led to his eventually changing horses in the mid-nineties when he become General Manager of the business.
The way forward became clear as the experience of working with numerous event organisations led to the realisation that he had both a talent and enthusiasm for both lighting and and lighting design and in particular wedding & party lighting. This was confirmed by the immediate success of his first production, Christmas Past Present & Future, a season of themed corporate parties which attracted clients such as Moet & Chandon, Hodder & Stoughton and ICI. In partnership with John Cutler, designer of the ubiquitous Canon Eye logo and Isobel Montgomery Campbell the team went on to repeat this success over the next 6 years.
In parallel with the provision of wedding & party lighting and decoration services the wedding side of the business expanded rapidly bringing with it many opportunities to develop new lighting designs and techniques. Crucial to this development was Isobel’s input who with her training in costume design and theatrical production brought invaluable experience and ideas to the table. As a costume designer with Jean Lamprell and at Shepperton Studios, Isobel has worked on productions in both film and theatre.
Richard & Isobel, as RedCat Lighting now specialise in wedding lighting and decor and enjoy the challenges and demands of working in a number of London venues.
